Asst. Prof. Miriam I. Ugaddan
Asst. Prof. Miriam I. Ugaddan is a full-time faculty member of the Department of Family Life and Child Development, UP College of Home Economics, Diliman. She has handled preschool classes at the UP Child Development Center, the department’s laboratory preschool, as well as undergraduate and graduate classes in the Department and the College. She has extensive experience working for the private sector, doing consultancy for schools, training early childhood teachers and helping NGOs establish their child development programs. She has worked for two faith-based NGOs and co-owned The Growing Place, a preschool. Recently, she led a team of writers to write the Matatag Curriculum Kindergarten Learning Exemplars for Dep Ed. She was also part of a team that did development work and an action research for UNICEF toward capacitating child development workers (CDWs) and teachers (CDTs) in the country. Her engagement with TESDA as an ECCD technical expert is an extension of the work she has been doing in helping professionalize CDWs/ CDTs toward a national certification. She almost finished her Master of Family Life and Child Development, but she was sent on study fellowship through the International Student Exchange Program (ISEP) and ended up finishing her Master of Education (Early Childhood Education) at the University of Nebraska-Kearney (formerly Kearney State College), USA. Her research interests include early childhood education curriculum, authentic assessment of young children, the development of early literacy, and early numeracy in young children and capacity building for early childhood care providers.
