Asst. Prof. Lester John C. Lim is a licensed professional teacher and faculty member of the UP Department of Family Life and Child Development (DFLCD). With some years of experience at the UP Child Development Center, the department’s living laboratory, he has strengthened his belief that play is not merely a pastime but a vital way for young children to make sense of the world. 

Through the DOST-SEI, he has authored children's storybooks on themes such as disaster risk reduction and learning to read clocks, while also exploring diverse family structures, including transnational and single-parent families. Through these works, he hopes to blend creative experiences with purposeful learning for young children. 

An advocate of restorative justice, he integrates this perspective into his teaching, research, and community engagements, emphasizing dignity, healing, and inclusion—especially for those who are voiceless, marginalized, and underrepresented—in child and family development. He also serves as the permanent representative of the DFLCD in the Research Consortium of Children’s Rights by the Council for the Welfare of Children. 

He has held various administrative positions, including Chair of the DFLCD (2013–2015) and Chair of the Office of Community Extension and Services (2019). He currently serves as College Secretary and Quality Assurance Officer of the UP College of Home Economics.

Beyond his professional work, Lester finds joy in cleaning and caring for his small collection of fountain pens, and he enjoys visiting old churches and cemeteries—quiet spaces that allow him to reflect, recharge, and stay grounded.
